Community Legal Services of Prince George's County, Inc.

is a non-profit organization established to provide quality civil legal services to the indigent and needy of Prince George's County. The services are provided by the lawyers of Prince George's County and by professional staff. Organized under 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, the Foundation qualifies as a tax-exempt charitable foundation and donations are always welcome. The Foundation operates in a very cost-effective manner, with grants from the Maryland Legal Services Corporation, the Administrative Office of the Courts, Prince George's County, the United Way/CFC, and private foundations, and receives gifts and contributions from the legal and business communities, as well as from private individuals.

CLS staff interviewed and assisted over 7,100 clients in FY 2004. During fiscal year 2004, volunteer lawyers donated over 4,200 hours of service, representing over $8,500 in donated lawyer fees. Since the program began in 1989, lawyers have donated almost $8.3 million in otherwise billable hours.

CLS operates several programs

New clients with legal matters in Prince George’s County may apply for a lawyer to represent them via a telephone intake line on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until Noon. Proof of financial eligibility is required. Staff members speak English and Spanish.
We operate a walk-in clinic for persons representing themselves in family law, domestic violence, small claims, and tenant matters. The clinic is located in the courthouse in Upper Marlboro and operates Monday thru Thursday from 9:00 – 4:00 and Friday 9:00 – Noon. You must sign-in between the hours of 9:00 – 11:00 and 1:00 – 3:00 to be sure to be helped.

Latino Outreach Walk-in Clinic

We operate a Latino outreach walk-in clinic in the Community Outreach Policing Station (COPS) in Langley Park Md. The clinic operates Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 – 2:00. We provide legal advice and help with forms and responses to government agencies.

Worker’s Rights Clinic

We operate an outreach clinic to assist workers with employment issues. The clinic is open on Thursdays from 9:00 – 2:00. The clinic is located in the Community Outreach Policing Station (COPS) building, at 8011 New Hampshire Ave. in Langley Park, MD.
The clinic is funded by the Eugene and Agnes Meyer Foundation.
